An open letter to Darren Henry MP regarding protestors at the Health Centre in Stapleford

Dear Mr Henry,

We ask that you please consider seriously the matter of protestors standing outside Stapleford Health Centre and offer some support to efforts to stop this and similar protests in this vicinity. We are concerned for members of the public, staff and patients.

We would like you to please pursue all legislative avenues in order to ensure this protest/vigil does not occur, including supporting existing work in Parliament to establish "buffer zones" around such facilities.

We state more clearly and specifically our reasons below.

Pro-Choice Nottingham
Evidence shows that this kind of anti-abortion activity is intimidating to people accessing        reproductive healthcare and that  the presence of these groups cause significant distress at an already difficult time.

We at Pro-Choice Nottingham firmly believe that this group has chosen the location of their “vigil” deliberately to target women attending the health centre. We respect the right of 40 days for life to express their opinions but we maintain that whether they are praying or protesting there are more appropriate and less harmful places they could do either.

Clearly our priority at Pro-Choice Nottingham is protecting existing abortion access. We therefore ask you to support work taking place to establish "buffer zones" and to support making abortion fully legal, so that relevant medication can be prescribed by GPs/Practice nurses and be taken at home.
